Zuo Peiwen Of China Automotive Technology And Research Center: China's New Energy Vehicle Sales Will Reach 14.653 Million Units In 2023, Leading The World In The Field Of New Energy Vehicles
May 28, 2024
From May 28th to 29th, the "2024 National Entrepreneurs Activity Day and Chinese Entrepreneurs Annual Meeting" was held in Zhengzhou, Henan. Zuo Peiwen, Secretary of the Party Branch and Technical Director of China Automotive Technology and Research Center, attended the "High-Quality Development of the Automotive Industry" forum and delivered a speech.
Zuo Peiwen said that car sales will reach 14.653 million units in mid-2023, and China has achieved global leadership in the field of new energy vehicles. Starting from the 863 plan layout in 2011, after more than 20 years of development, the new energy vehicle market penetration rate will reach 31.6% in 2023, of which the penetration rate of new energy passenger vehicles will reach 30%, and the penetration rate of commercial vehicles will be 11%.
In terms of technology development trends, Zuo Peiwen mentioned that the product positioning of new energy vehicles has changed from mobile travel tools to large-scale mobile intelligent terminals, energy storage units and digital space. He emphasized that the next generation of new energy vehicles will be the product of the integrated development of energy, transportation, artificial intelligence, and information and communications across fields, and the core will face reconstruction, affecting the new competitive landscape.
Zuo Peiwen also discussed the improvement of driving range, the mass energy density of power batteries, and the development of autonomous driving technology. He mentioned that the market penetration rate of L2 autonomous driving has increased significantly and is expected to exceed 50%, and emphasized the technical challenges faced by L3 autonomous driving and the importance of testing.
At the same time, he also mentioned the development of smart cockpits. Zuo Peiwen pointed out that new features such as multi-mode interaction, large-scale vehicle display screens, and external discharge functions have emerged in the interaction mode.
He also mentioned six functions in OTA (over-the-air software updates), including problem fixing, performance optimization, software customization, etc., which indicates that the product development model will face reconstruction.
Finally, Zuo Peiwen put forward suggestions for the development of new energy vehicle technology, emphasizing that technological innovation has entered a deep-water period, and it is necessary to pay attention to new electrical architectures, next-generation power systems, autonomous driving and other fields, and adopt strategies such as full-stack self-research of core technologies.
"New energy vehicles have already taken the lead in the first half. We need to carry out research on the next generation of new energy vehicles, strengthen research and development and increase applications, and achieve iterative upgrades. Investment and financing will play an important role," he said.
