On May 11, Hanwha Solutions said it would invest $320 million to expand its production capacity in the U.S. and South Korea in response to growing global demand for solar energy.
The company plans to invest US$170 million to build a 1.4GW photovoltaic module factory in the United States. The factory is located in Dalton, Georgia with an existing 1.7GW capacity. After the expansion, the module capacity of this factory will reach more than 3GW. The new capacity is expected to be launched in 2023 at the earliest. put into production half a year.
Hanwha will also invest $150 million to expand its battery plant in South Korea from the current 4.5GW to 5.4GW, with the expansion due to be completed next year.
These investments will bring Hanwha's total battery capacity to 10.9GW and module capacity to 13.8GW. Hanwha said it would invest further in the U.S., including in silicon wafers and cells, if there were long-term policies to encourage solar manufacturing. In addition to the United States and South Korea, Hanwha also has factories in China and Malaysia.
