380MW! German Company KGAL Approved To Invest in Photovoltaic Projects in Italy
Jun 10, 2022
German investment and asset management company KGAL MWpH & CoKG announced on Thursday that it has received approval for three large-scale photovoltaic (PV) projects in Italy, located in the Lazio region and Sicily, with a combined installed capacity of 380 megawatts (MW). These approvals have attracted significant market attention and are seen as a crucial strategic move in KGAL's renewable energy strategy in Europe.
The most notable project is the 150MW Tuscania project, which KGAL claims is one of the largest solar projects approved in Italy to date. Located in Lazio, this solar PV power plant is considered a core asset driving Italy's renewable energy development.
The second project is the Vitociano project, with a capacity of approximately 90MW, located only about 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) from Tuscania. Both projects are strategically located in the heart of energy demand between northern Italy and Rome, a region with relatively high electricity prices, which KGAL notes will facilitate better revenue generation.
The third approved project is the PietraMonreale project in Sicily, with an installed capacity of 140MW. As part of KGAL's pipeline in Sicily, it can be expanded in phases to 700MW over the next few years. A portion of the project is held by the KGALESPF4 fund, with the remainder invested in its follow-on fund, KGALESPF5.
Recently, the KGALESPF5 impact fund also acquired a controlling stake in Italian renewable energy developer Baltex Progetti, which has a pipeline of over 300MW of wind and solar power projects in Emilia-Romagna, Sardinia, and Sicily. KGAL added that these investment opportunities in Italy are expected to translate into over 1200MW of wind and solar power capacity.
This series of investments by KGAL comes at a time of accelerated global energy transition, not only driving local green power capacity growth but also aligning with the long-term demand for renewable energy and energy infrastructure in Europe and globally. In recent years, the Italian government has simplified the approval process for renewable energy projects and accelerated the implementation of renewable energy power generation facilities, contributing to an increase in the proportion of green energy in the country's energy consumption.
As part of the energy and emerging technology industry supply chain, a stable supply of renewable energy equipment, energy storage systems, and related electrical connection components is crucial. In the construction of solar photovoltaic, energy storage, and power infrastructure, metal stamping and welding components such as copper busbars, aluminum busbars, and battery cover plates are essential products for ensuring the efficient and safe operation of electrical systems. Our company specializes in providing metal stamping and welding component solutions, including high-conductivity busbars (such as copper and aluminum busbars) and protective casings for new energy batteries, providing reliable core component support for solar power generation, energy storage, and related supporting equipment. We welcome you to learn more about our component products and technical services in the field of new energy.
