Egyptian Government Plans To Develop 10GW Of Renewable Energy in 2023!
May 30, 2022
In recent years, the Egyptian government has accelerated the deployment of renewable energy projects, aiming to significantly increase the proportion of clean energy in the country's energy mix. According to media reports, Egypt plans to develop 10 GW of renewable energy projects by 2023, including photovoltaic systems. It is expected that renewable electricity generation will increase significantly next year as numerous renewable energy projects come online and are put into operation.
The Egyptian government's goal is to increase the share of green energy in the national energy mix. The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy has formulated relevant plans to promote investment in the renewable energy sector. Ministry spokesperson Ayman Hamza told the media that the government is advancing the construction of projects, including green hydrogen and ammonia production plants, and the generated renewable electricity will be used for seawater desalination projects and agricultural irrigation, but this requires substantial investment. Hamza stated, "According to our energy strategy, we plan to achieve 10 GW of renewable energy installed capacity by 2023. Considering Egypt's abundant sunshine and favorable wind conditions, we are confident in achieving this goal."
Last month, Frans Timmermans, the EU's climate policy chief, stated in Egypt that Egypt is expected to play a key role in providing clean energy to Europe, helping the EU reduce its dependence on Russian fossil fuels. Subsequently, Masdar, a renewable energy giant headquartered in the UAE, signed a memorandum of understanding with investor Hassan Allam Utilities to develop green hydrogen production plants in the Suez Canal Economic Zone and along the Mediterranean coast.
According to a report released earlier this year by Egypt's New and Renewable Energy Authority, Egypt's renewable energy generation capacity reached 24,000 GWh in 2021, with projects under development totaling 3,570 MW and having secured $3.5 billion in investment support.
In line with Egypt's rapid development of renewable energy, our company also provides high-performance products closely related to the new energy industry, such as copper busbars, aluminum alloy battery casings, and energy storage battery packs. These products can be widely used in photovoltaic systems, power storage, and new energy vehicles, providing reliable support for green energy development in Egypt and globally.
