Bangladesh Plans To Install MoreThan 1.4GW Of Photovoltaic Systems By 2025!
May 30, 2022
Bangladesh's photovoltaic (PV) industry has experienced rapid growth in recent years. Ghana's Minister of Electricity, Energy and Mineral Resources, Nasrul Hamid, recently announced that the government will approve more PV deployment plans, with the installed capacity expected to exceed 1.4 GW by 2025. This signifies the increasing prevalence of PV systems in Bangladesh.
According to industry sources, the 28 PV projects currently under construction include sites already commercially operational and projects in their later stages of construction. The largest announced PV projects reportedly have installed capacities between 50 MW and 100 MW. Hamid stated at the Fifth Energy Transition Commission Ministerial Meeting that PV systems already account for 554 MW of the country's cumulative installed capacity of 788 MW.
Hamid pointed out that approximately 6 million households nationwide have installed PV systems, providing electricity to 12% of Bangladesh's population. The total installed capacity of rooftop PV systems currently used for net metering has reached 42 MW. He emphasized, "Green energy will be given special emphasis in the next master plan for the power sector." This strategy will also clearly define the government's zero-carbon development plan.
He also pointed out that clean energy is a key component of Bangladesh's Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan. Member countries of the Climate Vulnerability Forum are developing Climate Prosperity Plans (CPPs) to address the impacts of global warming. Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina chaired the forum's first Climate Prosperity Plan meeting, aiming to shift the focus from previous approaches to climate-vulnerable countries to better adapt to climate change.
Bangladesh will continue to attract foreign investment to develop clean energy. In November 2021, Chinese energy developer Guopu Energy Technology Co Ltd announced plans to invest $50 million in Bangladesh's renewable energy sector. Bangladesh has also set a target of 40% of its electricity coming from renewable sources within a certain period.
With the development of photovoltaic and renewable energy, the demand for efficient and secure power transmission and energy storage products is constantly growing. Against this backdrop, our company's products, including copper busbars, insulating busbars, and storage battery packs, provide reliable conductivity and energy storage solutions for photovoltaic systems and new energy power projects, facilitating the efficient application of clean energy.
