Number Of Large-scale Photovoltaic Projects Surges in Bangladesh
Sep 19, 2023
The government of Bangladesh has recently approved several large-scale solar projects to increase the share of renewable energy in the country's power mix and meet its energy and climate goals. The rapid growth of solar projects may be attributed to new measures introduced in Bangladesh to assist independent power producers in building and operating new renewable energy generation facilities.
Bangladesh recently planned to develop three large-scale solar projects with a total installed capacity of 300MW. Additionally, the government of Bangladesh has approved the development of two more 100MW solar projects last week.
Singapore-based Ditrolic SA International Pte and Powernetic Energy have been granted licenses to develop a solar project in Cox's Bazar, an area that already hosts a 20MW solar project.
The Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) will purchase electricity from Ditrolic SA International Pte's solar project at a rate of $0.0998/kWh for 20 years. The company is also required to construct a 14-kilometer-long 132kV double-circuit transmission line to connect to the nearest substation.
Powernetic Energy will develop another solar project in the Dinajpur and Thakurgaon regions, with guarantees from a consortium composed of Green Progress Renewable B.V. and IRB Associates.
The electricity procurement price for this solar project is also $0.0998/kWh, and the developer will build, own, and operate the project.
Additionally, Powernetic Energy will construct an 11-kilometer double-circuit transmission line to deliver power to the Pirganj grid substation.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Power Generation Company (EGCB) has announced plans to develop another 100MW solar project in the Feni region.
Hero Futur Energy Asia will be the partner of EGCB. EGCB will provide the required land.
