The Cloud Server Cabinet Industry Ushers in New Opportunities For Green And Intelligent Transformation
Apr 07, 2025
1. The market scale continues to expand, and technology iteration drives industry upgrades
In 2024, the global cloud server cabinet market will maintain double-digit growth, and industry leaders will accelerate the layout of high-density, low-power solutions. Data shows that the number of data center cabinets in the world has increased by 18% year-on-year, of which the proportion of liquid-cooled cabinets supporting a single cabinet power density of more than 25kW has increased to 35%. With the surge in demand for AI computing power, liquid cooling technology with intelligent cooling capacity adjustment has become mainstream, and energy efficiency has been improved by more than 30% through dynamic adaptation of server power.
In terms of technological innovation, modular design is deeply integrated with edge computing scenarios. The new generation of intelligent integrated cabinets integrates power supply, refrigeration, monitoring, and other systems, supports single-cabinet cascading expansion to 16 groups, and shortens the deployment cycle to within 24 hours. This type of server rack cabinet uses a fully enclosed circulation duct design to reduce the noise in the computer room from 95 decibels to below 65 decibels, and achieves dustproof level A standards.

2. Policies are stepping up to promote green transformation, and energy efficiency standards are leading industry change
Many places around the world have strengthened energy efficiency supervision of wall-mounted data cabinets. China's "Special Action Plan for Green and Low-carbon Development of Data Centers" clearly requires that by 2025, the PUE (power usage efficiency) of newly built large data centers will be reduced to less than 1.25, and the PUE of national hub node projects shall not be higher than 1.2. Beijing has even issued a special policy to impose differential electricity prices on data centers with a PUE exceeding 1.35, and requires green transformation to be completed by 2027.
In this context, liquid cooling technology and renewable energy applications have become the key to carbon reduction. For example, the natural cooling system can achieve "natural cooling" in seasons when the ambient temperature is below 15°C, saving 30% of energy consumption each year. Some data centers have increased the proportion of green electricity use to more than 80% through photovoltaic direct power supply systems, and the carbon emission intensity per unit computing power has dropped by 40%.

3. Edge computing generates distributed demand, and industry application scenarios are accelerating the expansion
5G and IoT technologies have driven the explosion of edge computing demand. The depth of edge data center cabinets at the city and county level has generally been reduced to 600mm to adapt to deployment in small spaces. Such edge cabinets need to support wide temperature operation from 5℃ to 45℃, and integrate heterogeneous computing capabilities to meet the real-time processing needs of ultra-high-definition video, industrial vision, and other scenarios.
At the industry application level, smart water conservancy, telemedicine, and other fields are accelerating their implementation. For example, the water conservancy perception network uses edge intelligent all-in-one machines to achieve local analysis and decision-making of hydrological monitoring data, reducing 90% of cloud data transmission. In addition, industries such as finance and education use computer server racks to achieve centralized control of IT equipment, and operation and maintenance efficiency is improved by more than 50%.
4. Challenges and future trends
The current industry faces multiple challenges: the initial investment cost of liquid cooling technology is high, and the transformation of traditional air-cooled cabinets is difficult; the power supply in some areas is tight, pushing up energy costs; supply chain fluctuations lead to longer delivery cycles for key components. In this regard, companies are exploring the "computing power and electricity synergy" model, reducing operating costs through peak and valley electricity price adjustments, and strengthening the supply chain substitution of domestic chips and refrigeration equipment.
Looking to the future, server cabinets will develop in the direction of "greening, intelligence, and edge". It is expected that by 2027, the market penetration rate of liquid cooling cabinets will exceed 50%, and the penetration rate of AI-driven intelligent temperature control systems will reach more than 70%. With the advancement of the East Data West Computing Project, the rack rate of western hub node cabinets will increase to 60%, driving the optimization of the national computing power layout. The industry needs to find a balance between technological innovation, policy adaptation, and ecological synergy to cope with the dual challenges of energy transformation and computing power explosion.
