What's Film Capacitor?
May 30, 2022
Film capacitors refer to capacitors that use electrical grade electronic films as dielectrics, metal foils as electrodes, and electrodes and plastic films are laminated and wound.
According to the type of current, it can be divided into two types: DC film capacitors and AC film capacitors.
DC film capacitors are characterized by large capacitance, low withstand voltage, polarity, self-healing properties, high reliability, good temperature stability and long service life. Typical applications include drives, UPS, solar inverters, electronic ballasts, small motors for automobiles, household appliances, and various types of power supplies.
AC film capacitors have the characteristics of small capacitance and high withstand voltage, and are indispensable components in conventional industrial AC power applications and the starting and running of asynchronous motors. AC capacitors are widely used in AC output filters, especially output filters such as uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and photovoltaic inverters.
The role of film capacitors in photovoltaic inverters is mainly to absorb the high pulse current at the DC-Link end, so that the voltage fluctuation at the inverter end is stable and controllable, which plays an important role in ensuring the stability and performance of photovoltaic equipment.
