With the rapid development of the automotive industry and the evolving market demands, auto shows have become crucial platforms for showcasing the latest technologies and trends. The 27th Chengdu International Auto Show, themed "Tidal Waves in Rongcheng · Leading the Future with Intelligence," opened on August 30th. This year's show focused on three major areas: gasoline, electric, and hybrid vehicles, attracting nearly 130 companies from Germany, the USA, France, Japan, Korea, and various joint ventures and independent brands, with over 1600 vehicles on display. The exhibition highlighted global and national premieres, particularly emphasizing innovations in new energy vehicles and flying cars, providing attendees with a diverse and rich viewing experience.

According to data released by the Chengdu Auto Show organizing committee, 73 new models were unveiled on the first day of the show, including 27 global premieres and 38 national premieres. These new models cover a range of categories such as new energy smart connected vehicles, plug-in hybrid vehicles, performance luxury sports cars, and concept cars.

Data from the Passenger Car Association indicates that in July, the national retail market for passenger cars reached 1.72 million units, with new energy passenger cars accounting for 878,000 units. The retail penetration rate exceeded 50% for the first time, reaching 51.1%, a 15 percentage point increase from the same period last year. From January to July this year, domestic sales of new energy passenger cars grew by 33.7% year-on-year to 4.988 million units, with a penetration rate exceeding 43.1%.

The rapid growth of the new energy vehicle market has led various brands to intensify their efforts in electrification. At the show, it was noted that this year's Chengdu Auto Show features two dedicated pavilions for new energy vehicles: Hall 10 and Hall 11. These pavilions attracted 17 new energy vehicle brands including Zeekr, Xpeng, GAC Aion, and Weilai, highlighting that new energy and smart technology are major focuses of this year's exhibition.
Domestic brands like BYD, Geely, and Great Wall are also actively showcasing their latest new energy models. BYD, in particular, has occupied the entire Hall 9 for an exclusive exhibition, presenting its Dynasty Series, Ocean Series, Yangwang, Fangcheng Leopard, and Tengshi brands. The company has also set up a technology display area, showcasing its Yunxian intelligent body control system and e-platform.
At the show, BYD Dynasty Net Sales General Manager Lu Tian announced the launch of a new model, IP "Summer", positioned as a large MPV built on BYD's new-generation plug-in hybrid platform, with an expected price starting at 300,000 yuan and a release planned for later this year. This is BYD Dynasty Net's first MPV model. On the same day, the 2025 BYD Song L EV was officially launched.
Great Wall Motors showcased six brands for the first time at the Chengdu Auto Show: Wey, Tank, Haval, Great Wall Pickup, Ora, and Great Wall Soul. The flagship model, the second-generation Haval H9, has begun pre-sales with a price range of 205,900 to 235,900 yuan. According to Great Wall Motors Vice President Liu Yanzhao, the joint appearance of these six brands reflects Great Wall's strategic layout across the entire industry chain. In the future, the company aims to meet diverse needs through differentiated competitive advantages in multiple categories, levels, and power types.
Geely Auto displayed 28 models under its Geely, Lynk & Co, and Zeekr brands. Zeekr globally premiered its luxury five-seat SUV and opened for reservations. Zeekr Intelligent Technology CEO An Conghui stated in an interview that the 7X is as important to Zeekr as the Boyue was to Geely, positioning the Zeekr brand for the future in the new energy SUV market, with deliveries starting on September 20.
Additionally, luxury brands made significant contributions at this year's Chengdu Auto Show. Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi from FAW all had exhibition areas exceeding 3,000 square meters. Mercedes-Benz presented 28 models, including the global premiere of the long-wheelbase GLC plug-in hybrid SUV and the latest updated EQE electric model.
BMW Group showcased 13 new cars from both the BMW and MINI brands, setting a record for the number of new cars exhibited by BMW at the Chengdu Auto Show.
Other luxury brands such as Lincoln, Lexus, Jaguar Land Rover, Volvo, Cadillac, and Genesis also participated. Volvo highlighted its plug-in hybrid models, including the XC90, S90, and XC60. Ultra-luxury brands like Rolls-Royce, Lamborghini, Porsche, and Lotus gathered in Hall 16, with Porsche globally premiering its new long-range electric Macan model.
