India's PV Module Production Capacity Has Grown To 50.8gw
Jul 10, 2024
According to the latest approved list of models and manufacturers (ALMM) released by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) of India, India's PV module production capacity has grown to 50.8GW so far. In this list, India currently has 93 PV module manufacturing plants, compared to the previous number of 90.

The ALMM list released by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) of India in May this year showed that the country's total PV module production capacity was 48GW at the time. The recent addition of about 2.5GW of capacity is mainly due to the increase in capacity of Emmvee, Credence, Gautam Solar and other PV module manufacturers.
Emmvee has added the most PV system capacity, with an installed capacity of 1,504MW. With the increase in capacity, Emmvee has now become one of the top six PV module manufacturers in the ALMM list.

PV Power, a PV module manufacturer from Maharashtra, and Lubi Electronics from Gujarat also made the list with 86MW and 40MW of capacity respectively.
In addition, several PV module manufacturers have also increased their capacity. The latest ALMM list shows that Citizen Solar has increased its capacity in the ALMM list from 70MW to 150MW. Credence Solar has also increased its capacity from 125MW to 500MW.
Insolation Solar has increased its capacity from 430MW to 617MW. Gautam Solar has increased its capacity from 319MW to 710MW.
In terms of the highest PV module capacity, Waaree continues to lead the ALMM list with a capacity of 10.77GW. It is followed by Mundra Solar (Adani) with a capacity of 4.1GW, followed by ReNew (3.6GW), First Solar (3.2GW), Tata (3.19GW), Emmvee (2.69GW), Goldi Solar (2.60GW) and Vikram Solar (2.4GW).

Meanwhile, with the launch and expansion of PM Surya Ghar rooftop PV program, the demand for rooftop PV systems in India will rise, and many companies have also started producing TOPCon bifacial PV modules.
With the increase in domestic PV module production capacity in India, India can now take the lead in providing domestic PV modules for various types of PV projects in the country and eliminate the dependence on imported PV modules. This also happens at a time when tariff barriers and non-tariff barriers make it difficult for foreign PV module manufacturers to dump lower-priced PV modules for PV projects in India.
