The material composition also serves as a basis for classification, where fuse holders can be identified as either plastic or bakelite fuse boxes.


Environmental considerations play a role in the distinction between eco-friendly fuse boxes and those that are not designed with environmental protection in mind.


Installation methodology divides fuse holders into several categories, including lead-in fuse boxes, circuit board fuse boxes, and those designed for installation within an instrument panel.


For lead-in fuse boxes, the compatible fuse tube sizes include 5 × 20mm and 6 × 30mm variants.


In the context of automotive fuse boxes, the appropriate fuse sizes are categorized as small, medium, and large insert fuse boxes.


The choice of a fuse box primarily hinges on its physical dimensions and whether its flame rating satisfies safety standards, as well as its compatibility with the size and current capacity of the fuse tube. Typically, high current applications-usually defined as currents exceeding 15A-are best suited for 6 × 30mm fuse boxes or medium insert fuse boxes. In such cases, the wire gauge should be 16awg (1.5mm²) or heavier to ensure safe and efficient operation.
