8.6MW! Engie Romania Invests in The Largest Self-use Photovoltaic Project in Romania
May 30, 2022
According to reports, Engie Romania, the Romanian subsidiary of the French energy group Engie, recently announced the construction of an 8.6MW photovoltaic (PV) power generation facility at its Saint Gobain Romania glass manufacturing plant in the Muntenia region of southeastern Romania.
Upon completion, this project will be Romania's first and largest self-consumption PV project, primarily supplying electricity to the glass manufacturing plant and expected to meet approximately 20% of its electricity needs. A spokesperson for Engie Romania stated, "In a dynamic and volatile energy market, deploying and using renewable energy generation facilities on-site at customer production facilities is a sustainable solution that provides both cost predictability and a significant reduction in carbon footprint."
Furthermore, the Romanian government introduced new policies last year to promote bilateral power purchase agreements, providing policy support for similar projects.
