Basic product functions

Copper Bus Bars for Earthing System are core components used for safe conduction and grounding protection in electrical systems. Its basic function is to conduct abnormal current generated in electrical equipment into the earth to prevent personnel from getting electric shock or equipment damage. When a line leaks or is struck by lightning, the fault current is quickly discharged to the ground electrode through the copper bar, thereby protecting the entire system. The electrical conductivity of copper busbars is significantly better than that of steel, so it has become a mainstream choice. In addition, grounded copper bars can also balance the potential differences between different devices and effectively reduce electromagnetic interference.

Material standards

The common grounding copper bar in the industry is made of highly conductive copper material, with a copper content of not less than 99.9% and a conductivity of more than 58 MS/m. Depending on the usage scenario, the thickness of the copper bar usually ranges from 3 mm to 12 mm, and the width ranges from 20 mm to 120 mm. In humid or corrosive environments, it is recommended to use tin plated copper ground bars to enhance oxidation resistance. It should be noted that the cross-sectional area of the copper bar should be calculated based on the expected fault current. Generally, the current carrying capacity per square millimeter is estimated to be 3 A to 5 A. Relevant national standards include GB/T 5585-2005 "Copper Materials and Copper Products for Electrical Use" and GB/T 3274-2017 "Copper and Copper Alloy Plates, Strips, Foils and Special Shapes". International Electrotechnical Commission IEC 60364-5-54, IEC 62561-7 and other standards also provide detailed regulations on raw materials, dimensions, electrical properties and test methods.

critical detail control points

When installing a (Grounding Copper Busbar), first ensure that the contact surface is clean, remove the oxide layer, and then apply conductive paste. The connecting bolts need to use anti-loosening washers, and the torque value shall be based on standard specifications. For example, M10 bolts are usually tightened to 25 N·m to 30 N·m. The arc transition should be maintained at the turning point of the copper row, and the bending radius should not be less than twice the thickness of the row. When multiple copper bars are arranged in parallel, the spacing must be greater than their thickness to avoid eddy current heating. The grounding lead-out point should be clearly marked with yellow and green stripes. The installation location should be in an easily accessible and safe place and ensure the effectiveness of the grounding resistance. The grounding copper bar must not overlap with other signal lines or cable traces. At the same time, the layout of the Power Distribution Bus Bar in the electrical cabinet must also follow similar principles to ensure the reliability of the overall system.

Common faults

Problems that may occur during use include heating of connection points, surface corrosion, or mechanical deformation. During regular inspections, you need to pay attention to the following indicators: use a microohmmeter to measure the contact resistance at the connection, and its value should be less than 50 μΩ; use an infrared thermometer to check the temperature rise, and the difference from the ambient temperature should not exceed 30°C; visually inspect whether there are cracks or discoloration. For corrosion problems, you can wipe it with dilute hydrochloric acid and rinse it with clean water. In severe cases, some parts need to be replaced. If it is found that the cross-section loss exceeds 10% of the original thickness, replacement should also be considered. The contact part of the grounding copper bar must be kept clean and dry to avoid interference from stray currents and electromagnetic waves. In the electrical control cabinet, the detection of the ground bus bar electrical panel also needs to follow the above method to ensure the safety of operators.
